WELCOME

Are you tired of having short hair? Do you want to add length? Or maybe you want to add thickness/volume to the sides or the back of your hair due to your hair thinning or maybe a color change is what you’re really after. No matter what your reason is, hair extensions can dramatically change the look and feel of your hair without causing any damage.

Hair extensions are a very popular accessory worn by celebrities and the everyday woman. Wearing hair extensions has become as common as putting on jewelry or wearing makeup. Hair extensions are an ultra fashionable way to take your look from school causal to Cinderella chic. Many celebrities get hair extensions for various movie roles. When you see magazine covers with famous actors having long, flowing natural looking long hair, you begin to think that maybe you could get the same look. Once thought as a rich person's service, hair extensions have become much more affordable and even practical for everyday consumers.

Hair extensions are made from synthetic fibers and real human hair. Synthetic hair is less expensive; however extensions made from human hair tend to give a better result, naturally. Hair extensions come in many different types. There are differences in the way hair extensions are prepared, in the technique used to attach it to your own hair, and in what kind of hair is used. Some systems only differ from materials that are used or just from name. With many techniques some kind of glue or bond is used for attachment, these methods involve coating your own hair with a chemical or foreign substance. Some glues can be harmful for your hair or skin, others are safe. But the main reason for getting hair extensions is to add length to your hair style, although they can be used to thicken your hair or even add highlights.

Hair extensions will not last forever, sometimes because the attachment breaks but mostly because the growth of your own hair. Extensions connected to your hair will get more lose as your hair grows (approximately 0.4" per month). Depending on how fast your hair grows and how well you take care of your extensions they have to be removed or re-tightened when they get too loose.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every method of hair extension available today. There can be a big cost difference between one method and another. There is a direct relationship between time and cost. Most hair extensions are time-intensive, resulting in the major portion of the costs involved. Another major factor is the quality of the human or synthetic hair that is used. Quality hair is expensive. The hair industry is not regulated so determining what or who supplied quality hair can be difficult. Research and education is a primary factor in a successful hair extension service.

Choose and Prepare for hair Extensions

Hair extensions have become quite popular for fun and for style. I myself have quite thin and fine hair and wear them to add volume. They allow me to create styles that I could never do with my own thin locks. You can do the same. Read on to learn how to choose and prepare for hair extensions.

  1. Preparing to have extensions put into your hair is not an overnight decision. You must first research the types of extensions available as there are many. There are glue-in, micro ring clamp-in, wafts, sewn-in and more. This guide is centered around the glue-in and micro ring clamp-in type of extensions.
  2. Once you have decided on the type you will need to find a stylist who specializes in these type of extensions. Schedule a consultation to discuss what you are hoping to achieve by having extensions put into your hair, the length of time it will take, the desired result, color matching and any other concerns you may have about the experience.
  3. The day of your extension placement plan to spend the full time four to five hours or more at the salon. I would plan on taking or purchasing a meal while there as this is a long process. You will need to have your hair prepared by shampooing with a clarifying shampoo and using no other products on your hair. Blow drying is fine but use no conditioner or other products as the hair is best in its cleanest natural condition. This will help the individual extensions adhere to your own hair.
  4. Hours later you walk out of the salon with a new found confidence, flip your hair off your shoulder, and let it blow in the wind. But be careful and follow the simple warnings to owning extensions. And don't forget regular follow-ups with your stylist as your extensions begin to grow out.
Tips and Warnings
  1. It is best to only use heat appliances liberally and not directly on the extension connections.
  2. Conditioner is best used sparingly and only on the ends of your hair.
  3. Do not shampoo or do any styling for at least three days allowing the connections to set well.
  4. Do not use a flat iron or curling iron on the actual connections.
