WELCOME

Are you tired of having short hair? Do you want to add length? Or maybe you want to add thickness/volume to the sides or the back of your hair due to your hair thinning or maybe a color change is what you’re really after. No matter what your reason is, hair extensions can dramatically change the look and feel of your hair without causing any damage.

Hair extensions are a very popular accessory worn by celebrities and the everyday woman. Wearing hair extensions has become as common as putting on jewelry or wearing makeup. Hair extensions are an ultra fashionable way to take your look from school causal to Cinderella chic. Many celebrities get hair extensions for various movie roles. When you see magazine covers with famous actors having long, flowing natural looking long hair, you begin to think that maybe you could get the same look. Once thought as a rich person's service, hair extensions have become much more affordable and even practical for everyday consumers.

Hair extensions are made from synthetic fibers and real human hair. Synthetic hair is less expensive; however extensions made from human hair tend to give a better result, naturally. Hair extensions come in many different types. There are differences in the way hair extensions are prepared, in the technique used to attach it to your own hair, and in what kind of hair is used. Some systems only differ from materials that are used or just from name. With many techniques some kind of glue or bond is used for attachment, these methods involve coating your own hair with a chemical or foreign substance. Some glues can be harmful for your hair or skin, others are safe. But the main reason for getting hair extensions is to add length to your hair style, although they can be used to thicken your hair or even add highlights.

Hair extensions will not last forever, sometimes because the attachment breaks but mostly because the growth of your own hair. Extensions connected to your hair will get more lose as your hair grows (approximately 0.4" per month). Depending on how fast your hair grows and how well you take care of your extensions they have to be removed or re-tightened when they get too loose.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every method of hair extension available today. There can be a big cost difference between one method and another. There is a direct relationship between time and cost. Most hair extensions are time-intensive, resulting in the major portion of the costs involved. Another major factor is the quality of the human or synthetic hair that is used. Quality hair is expensive. The hair industry is not regulated so determining what or who supplied quality hair can be difficult. Research and education is a primary factor in a successful hair extension service.

Care for Hair Extensions

Short hairstyles provide the convenience that many women need, as they do not require a lot of time to maintain. However, there are many women that do not feel comfortable wearing a short hairstyle or that occasionally want something more. This is one of the main reasons that hair extensions offer so much appeal. They provide you with the ability to temporarily wear a long hairstyle. If you want to get the most out of these clip-in pieces of hair, it is important to know how to care for hair extensions.

  1. Shampoo your hair extensions. This is very important because the natural oils from your own hair are likely to be absorbed by the hair extensions. All that you need to do is gently run the shampoo through the hair extensions and rinse it out. When you do this, be sure to apply it throughout the entire length of hair and then rinse it out in the same direction. The same way that you would ideally shampoo your natural hair is how you should shampoo your hair extensions.
  2. Keep extensions moist with conditioner. The reason that this is important is because the hair extensions will become dried out, especially if you plan on styling them at all. The main difference between shampooing and conditioning your hair extensions is that you will only need to run the conditioner through the ends of hair to get the best results. Otherwise, the hair extensions may become too greasy.
  3. Be sure to get the tangles out of the hair. The only way that you can do this is by using a comb. You should never use a brush on tangled hair extensions. Keep in mind that you should also only try to get the tangles out when your hair is wet.
  4. Use an extension brush. As you can probably guess, extension brushes are designed to best suit the needs of hair extensions. You can use them the same way that you would use a normal brush, such as when you use a blow dryer to dry the hair. If you want to properly care for hair extensions, you will definitely invest in an extension brush.
Tips and Warnings
  1. Only use hot hair styling tools on the hair when it’s dry.
  2. Only wear hair extensions in a ponytail if they are designed to do so.
  3. Keep in mind that you pay for what you get with hair extensions.
  4. For formal events, you may want to consider going to a salon for professional hair extensions.
  5. Do not apply heat to the tips if you want your hair extensions to last.
  6. Never be rough with your hair extensions.
